I have reached the conclusion that `Ammar Qurabi is the main source of information and rumors in Saudi/Qatari Arab media and Western media. When you hear "legal activist" (ناشط حقوقي) you know they are talking about him. I was impressed with his rhetoric about the regime. I don't know about his political affiliations, and know that he suffered under the regime. But now I am disturbed: not only because he peddled unsubstantiated information (so how many people demonstrated in Hama last Friday? Qurabi and Brotherhood are saying half a million to a million, while Anthony Shadid in the New York Times today put the figure at 100,00--which is huge of course), but because Qurabi seems to be attending a Zionist-sponsored conference on Syria. As I reported before, credible Syrian intellectuals (Subhi Hadidi, Burghan Ghalyun, and Faruq Mardam Bek) all signed a statement denouncing the role of Bernard-Henri Levy and his Zionist past and called for rejecting any interference by him in the Syrian affair). But this site is reporting that Qurabi and Muslim Brotherhood are attending the Levy-sponsored conference along with Israeli politicians. Can anyone confirm this? (thanks Hassan)
