Comrade Junaid sent me this from Pakistan:  "It's interesting that the evidence to disprove my general remark is a piece by a non-Pakistani, Ethan Casey!  The Pakistani neoliberal elite obsession with Saudi is meant to: a) downplay Pakistani society's own capability to produce kooks and crazies, to deflect it on others -- Saudis, Afghan refugees, etc, and more importantly, b) deflect any attention away from the historical and ongoing dirty US role in the country.  I can name you the writers in the Pakistani elite English media who are critical of the US. DAWN used to have a very good reputation in the days of Eqbal Ahmad; now, the only person I'm interested in reading there is Mahir Ali."
