So there are four arrest warrants for the four accused by the Hariri tribunal. There are pending 20,000 arrest warrants in Lebanon, and they have not led to arrests because the 20,000 can't be found. Kid you not. But don't despair: I am sure that the professional bodyguards of the Hariri family will be able to invade the southern suburbs and arrest the four. Oh, yeah. Why not. Yesterday, I watched the highly able security writer in Al-Akhbar, comrade Hasan `Ullayq, talk about the story on New TV. He made many good points. He said that "international justice" only work if the target is defeated, and that Israel failed to defeat Hizbullah. He said that had Israel defeated Hizbullah in 2006, then those warrants would have been meaningful. He dismissed the possibility of Hizbullah involvement but was frank in saying that he does not know who was behind the Hariri assassination. He said that Israel and US have been wanting to get Mustafa Badr Ad-Din, and used the tribunal to get him. `Ullayq also noted that Ghamlush was missing from the list, but that future Hariri tribunal lists will include other enemies of US/Israel, like the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian revolutionary guards and key Syrian personalities. (In fact, I was thinking yesterday, since the first Hariri report, those have been OFFICIALLY ACCUSED OR LINKED TO THE HARIRI ASSASSINATION: PFLP-GC, Ahbash Group in Lebanon, Syrian regime, Hizbullah, the four Generals, Sunni fundamentalists and the list keeps growing). And do you know how dumb it would be for those who want to kill Hariri, to involve the Syrian AND Iranian governments? Why invite members of the Arab League to participate too for extra effect. This has become like a Pink Panther movie now. And by the way, it is not true that Hariri circles have been accusing Hizbullah from early on. I saw senior Hariri adviser, Rudwan As-Sayyid only a few months after the assassination of Hariri in 2005, and he told me that Hariri family and people around them are convinced that the PFLP-GC were behind the assassination. I guess that Israel and US felt it would be more convenient to focus on Hizbullah, and the stooges of House of Saud do what House of Saud does: take orders and bow down to Israel and US.
