Dan Shapiro's training in Middle East studies

"Dan emerged as a real leader and helped enact new sanctions on Syria and to designate Hezbollah’s satellite television operation as a foreign terrorist organization."  In the past, a US diplomat got his/her training in the Middle East by studying.  Nowadays, a US diplomat gets his training through activism and advocacy on behalf of AIPAC.
