In dealing with Lebanon, the US has a strict policy: that those who harmed Americans there should be brought to justice and punished. I understand this position. But the US committed horrific crimes in Lebanon while trying to prop up the criminal regime of war lord, Amin Gemayyel. What about the massacre of Bir Al-`Abd, when the US was responsible (according to Bob Woodward's Veil and other sources) for the detonation of a massive car bomb to kill Muhammad Husayn Fadlallah (the bomb missed him but killed and injured scores of innocent civilians). Why do I mention that? Because the massacre of Bir Al-`Abd is often mentioned in Lebanon, especially by people in the southern suburbs. What is the US position on the massacre? That the natives should forgive and forget and just move on because the party that did it represented a superior race? Should Saudi Arabia which funded the operation be also forgiven?
