"Oman's widely admired leader responded to protester demands by shuffling Cabinet ministers, offering unemployment benefits and agreeing to study whether to give an elected advisory body more power. Those concessions haven't been enough to calm the discontent, which took many Omanis by surprise. Oman hasn't experienced such unrest since Qaboos came to power in 1970 in a bloodless coup against his father. Qaboos has used the sultanate's oil reserves to modernize the nation, and many Omanis who've lived through the past four decades express deep gratitude to him." I mean, he is not a nut case like his dad, but a tyrant nevertheless who ordered planes to hit rebels much more than Qadhdhafi. (thanks Jeff)
