Re "Tunisia unrest forces leader to flee," Jan. 15
Finally, now that the bravery of the Tunisian people has sent the corrupt Zine el Abidine ben Ali packing, the U.S. media have stopped touting the purported economic miracle of Tunisia and are instead beginning to focus on what was a vicious police state.
For several years Washington and Paris, which were complicit in the continuation of the repressive Tunisian regime, have been insistent on bringing to account the killers of a former Lebanese prime minister through an international investigation and tribunal.
Would it be too much to hope that they might initiate a similar tribunal for Ben Ali and his "associates" for their years of plunder and brutal repression of an entire country?
The innocent Tunisians who have died demanding freedom merit nothing less.
