There is a very silly article in the NYT today on its front page. It suggests that the Bush administration pressured Mubarak on human rights. Where is the evidence of that? Did he not receive huge aid from the US during those years? Did aid to Egypt not increase? Was he ever punished for his repression? Was he not praised constantly by US officials including by Bush? So what if a few token words were mentioned about "reform". That is meaningless. When US administration (any of them) invokes reform it is euphemism for them (and clearly understood by Arab people) that all what they want is for the dictators to make cosmetic changes to last longer in power. The Arab people know that the US wants to keep all Arab dictatorial governments in place--including that of Syria. That is understood. It is all for the benefit for imperialism and Israel.
