Bruce Riedel is now an expert on North Africa too? How cute

This guy has been clueless about the Middle East since early in his service in the Clinton administration.  He got my attention back in the 1990s when he gave a long interview to the Middle East Quarterly (the journal of Daniel Pipes) and said that the Arab people are really not upset over the US-imposed sanctions on Iraq at the time. I added him to the long list of clueless people who deal with the Middle East in Washington, DC.  He was recruited by the Obama administration as an expert on Pakistan.  Here, he poses as expert on Libya and offers shallow analysis and does not mention that the US is now a close ally of Qadhdhafi and does not explain why he did not say a word about the various US-supported dictatorships in the Middle East.
