Sam Dagher defines democracy

Look at this line: "And he and many of his peers are far from becoming fully reformed democrats: he has yet to renounce the insurgency." So according to Mr. Dagher, a fully reformed democrat in Iraq is somebody who supports the foreign occupation of the country. And what if one is a democrat but supports resistance to foreign occupation in his/her country? Does that negate democracy, o Mr. Dagher?
