Paul Samuelson: what about Marx?

Paul Samuelson has died. He had a role in my life and career choice. I started at AUB majoring in economics. But I had to the take the course three times: I could not complete the course the first two times as I would argue (actually fight) with the professors. I knew of economics what I read (and only partly understood) from the Marxist readings since high school days when I discovered Marxism-Leninism. So I go to AUB and we were assigned the textbook of Samuelson. And I was outraged that the economics that we were studying provided justification for capitalism and did not include any anti-capitalist materials. So I would exploit the professors' ignorance of things Marxist to argue with them in class. I would get quite angry, until one of the professors had to tell me: go argue with Samuelson. Why are you arguing with me? I said: but you assigned the book, and you should bear responsibility for the contents. I knew immediately that the economics (as being taught by AUB) was not what I wanted to study, so I switched to political science. This country is odd: Samuelson is regarded as a liberal. Hell, in this country, Keynes was referred to by a US president as a Marxist. So the standards are quite skewed.
