American ignorance of the Middle East: the case of Harvard U
It shows in many ways. They don't know the names or the places, and they often confuse events. If they are told by the US embassy that somebody is "good" they think that he/she must be good. This Jubran Tuwayni: he is the closest to what they call in Europe, the New Right. A demagogic politician with fascistic inclinations who made his career from hostility to poor immigrant workers (Palestinians and Syrians in the case of this Tuwayni). You will not know from Western tributes to this man that he took armed thugs back in 1989 (correct me of the date, if I am mistaken), and tried to storm and occupy the US embassy in Beirut. All that is not mentioned. The stupid Harvard University program here thinks that he is--or was--some liberal crusader for human rights. (thanks Ali)
