J Street: not on Main Street

I don't get this article about J Street, and I did not want to link to it especially that Arab media would like run away with it and write lauding article about it as if J Street has officially become the sole and legitimate voice of Jewish Americans. In fact, Jihad Az-Zayn in An-Nahar wrote an enthusiastic article about J Street after this came out as if this is now the new political factor in the making of US Middle East policy. Of course, this is not the first of its kind, and there were previous failed efforts to counter the power of AIPAC. Those organizations come and go. And most important, references to American public opinion of Jewish Americans are not relevant: of course, a large segment of Jewish Americans are not on the same page with AIPAC but they don't feel strongly about it as to affect AIPAC power which remains the most important non-governmental factor in the making of US Middle East policy. American Jews may favor less militant positions than AIPAC but the large American public (Christian and others) remain more militant and more hard-line than J Street because they are subject to the propaganda in which AIPAC and Christian Zionists play a big part in forming. And J Street is not that moderate: they still don't even dare call for talks with Hamas. And they still "balance" every mild criticism of Israeli fascism with an attack on the victims of Israeli terrorism. And the budget of J Street is a mere $3 million: probably some of the pro-Saudi Arab and Muslim "shops" in Washington, DC, including the American Task Force of Dahlan, have bigger budgets.
