Not a review
"Stephen Pollard’s article on Bruce Bawer’s “Surrender” (July 26) is not a review. It is perfectly fine, perhaps, that Pollard concludes that Bawer is “unquestionably correct.” Nevertheless, Pollard does the reader a disservice by engaging in hyperbole and unsubstantiated assertions. He proffers allegations like “liberals and others on the European left are making common cause with radical Islam” or “the United States is becoming as culpable as Europe, its liberal news media and college campuses willfully refusing to acknowledge the danger posed by radical Islam” with little evidence or elaboration. He tosses off glib stereotypes — the entire country of Norway is the “archetype, even the caricature, of the liberal European mind-set.” And he reveals an unwillingness or inability to engage the complexity of European political history such as the politics of immigration, the electoral successes of parties of the right, or even the allusive nature of the book’s title."
