The mess of American foreign policy in the Middle East

The footage of the return of Yemeni cleric Al-Mu'ayyid, told the whole story. Here was a cleric that was made to be a clone of Bin Laden because he was convicted of sending money to Hamas. It looked as if the entire country of Yemen turned out to receive them upon their return. Parliamentarians, ministers, and officers turned out: people from different political stripes. Even the Yemeni dictator felt compelled to receive him later in the day. A woman at the airport spoke to Al-Arabiyya TV: she said that we dont have the same standards of the US (with regards to what consitute terrorism). With such different frequencies, and with people like Jeffrey Feltman, Dennis Ross, and Daniel Shapiro running US Middle East policy, there is absolutely no hope of closing the wide gap. No difference in this regard between Obama and Bush.
