The New York Times and its love affair with the Honduran coup
Today, the New York Times carried a long AP story about the support for the coup on Honduras by the Catholic church, as if the church is ever an authority on matters of justice or real democracy. Notice how the copy includes languages that intends to convince the reader that the church is credible in its position: "Leaders of the Catholic Church, which polls show is the most respected institution in the conservative Central American country, have backed the ouster and thrown their weight behind the interim government installed by the Honduran Congress." Would the New York Times also find the past positions of the church against Jews, women and homosexuals to be credible?
