Another miscalculation by the opposition is the selection of Gen. Mishel Sulayman. The man was picked by the Syrian intelligence chief, Ghazi Kan`an, for the job and enjoyed very close relations with Hizbullah. But the opposition is always surprised when people switch positions and alliances: Sulayman quickly became an ally of the Saudi camp, and yet Hizbullah foolishly assumed that Sulayman would stay neutral. When the opposition was strong after May 7th of last year, they could have insisted on a different choice. But it is amazing how quickly people switch positions to favor the winners and suck up to them. I watched this morning Lebanese journalist, Simone Abu Fadil, who has been a staunch supporter of `Awn and a staunch cirtic of Hariri family. Yet, hours after ther results were announced, this man has become a critic of `Awn and a supporter of Hariri and Patriarch Sfayr. Such is the corruption in Lebanon--and elsewhere.
PS Ibn Rushd corrects me here. There are twin brothers: Simone Abu Fadil and Joseph Abu Fadil. He tells me that Simone has always been Haririst. I stand corrected.
