Bin Laden: the poet
Moving away (for a second only) from the Lebanese elections, I have to comment on this: "Osama bin Laden is himself a poet, some say a good one, with a persuasive mastery of classical Arabic. His imagery leaps out from the 12th century, dripping with blood and featuring steeds carrying warriors wielding swords and lances. It yearns for a time when Muslims did battle with Crusaders, and for the most part won. “His poetry is didactic,” Mr. Miller says, “always with a political message, but sometimes very moving.”" Oh, Mr. Miller. Please give me a break. Nobody--NOBODY--thinks that Bin Laden's poetry is good or moving. Bin Laden has a very good command of Arabic but his poetry sucks--big time. I would say that Bin Laden's skills in poetry are akin to Saddam Husayn's skill as a novelist.
