A well-connected source in Syria sent me this: "Word here is that the Syrian government is furious with some of the key figures in its diplomacy following Obama's renewal of sanctions against Syria. Those involved include minister of foreign affairs Walid Mua'alem, vice president Bothaina Sha'ban and Syrian ambassador to Washington Emad Moustafa. They are being accused of 'rushing' into
Obama's arms expecting him to completely change the US strategy in the region and misinforming the government about what is really going on. There was also some conflict regarding Jeffrey Feltman's recent visit to Damascus which coincided with the renewal of sanctions as some inside the government wanted to declare him 'persona non grata' because of his positions while he was an ambassador in Beirut. If you are going to post this, please keep me anonymous."
