Sheikh Mo: the poet
Al-Hayat, in an unsigned dispatch, has an article about the English translation of Arabic poetry by Sheikh Mo. You may ask about the quality of the poetry. I have read some of them and I can tell you that your local phone book contains more poetry and eloquence than the poetry of Sheikh Mo. On another matter, Jihad Khazen (columnist for Al-Hayat and former editor-in-chief of Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat and of Al-Hayat) was on LBC-TV the other day. He said that back in the 1990s, he asked the chief of Saudi foreign intelligence, Prince Turki Al-Faysal, to send him some information on the Taliban. The prince faxed him so information and Al-Khazen said that he promptly published them in Al-Hayat. Is that not nice? I mean, is the head of Saudi foreign intelligence not nice in sending such information to this Arabic newspaper (owned by his cousin)? I now remember that none other than Chas Freeman once explained to me the differences between the various Saudi intelligence services.
