If you think about it, Israel (and its Arab regimes' allies) is fuscrewed either way. I mean, if Hamas is defeated, there will be Black Septembers sprouting in in the region. And if Hamas is defeated, the enemies of Israel and Arab countries will be emboldened. In this important article by Ibrahim Al-Amin in Al-Akhbar, he reveals that there was a band within Hizbullah which wanted to exact revenge on Israel's allies in Lebanon after the Israeli war on Lebanon but Nasrallah prevailed and stopped them (or "repressed them" as Amin put it).
