Kissing the shoes

People who are rushing to analyze the significance of shoes as tools of insult fail to report that some Middle East dictators (like the Shah of Iran and King Hasan V of Morocco) used to expect their public to kiss their shoes. It is rumored that the Saudi king always spend private time with George W. Bush's shoes whenever the latter visits the Middle East.
PS It is Hasan II of course.
