Visa or no Visa: this is the question. On the question of Syrian visas at the Lebanese-Syrian border, Nir said: "they're all wrong, its arbitrary and sometimes they let you across and sometimes they dont". But EDB says: "Contrary to what Maureen and Marcy say, it is still official policy that US citizens cannot enter Syria by land from Lebanon without a visa --according to both the US State department's site and the Syrian embassy in the US. My point was that this is what these American journalists would have known from contacting the Syrian embassy in the US or the US state department website. Surely they make exceptions and the rule barring Americans from getting visas at the border is now apparently under review, since relations with the US have nominally improved. They could however have taken a visa for Syria in Jordan before leaving to Lebanon. Why didn't they do it if -- officially-- visas are not issued to Americans at the border and so many people have been turned away?"
