I received this message (I quote with permission): "Regarding you "hummus" blog entry about Abu Shukri's, I have a few comments. My mother's sister is married to Ziad Taha, which is the brother of the owner of Abu Shukri's. Ziad also owns an Abu Shukri's location in the Old City. They truly have some of the best hummus in the world. Although, I must admit, that the older brother's Abu Shukri's (the original location, which is also in the Old City) is a little better than Ziad's. They are immaculate. The "hummuseria" is so renowned, that Palestinians and Israeli's are packed into those places, and there are crowds lining Via De Lorosa (on Muslim, Christian, and Jewish holidays). The Israeli's claim that hummus is an imperative part of their cuisine, however, they all acknowledge that the "Arabs" are better at making hummus. This also applies to falafel, and ca'aek (comparable to "Israeli" bagels). Abu Shukri's has an old-world feel to it, and it is decorated with old photos of Jerusalem (pre-1948), particularly focusing on the gates to the city. I wish that you could experience it."
