I am finishing the memoirs of Arafat's aide and interpretor, Marwan Kanafani. You learn a lot about the lousy personality of Yaser Arafat--far more damaging to the Palestinian cause than Ahmad Shuqayri and Hajj Amin Husayni COMBINED. He reports that his office in the last years (with the intervention of Suha Arafat) was full of charlatans, fortune tellers, magicians, and people who claimed divine connections. As for crooks, well, they always surrounded Arafat. The book also talks about the humiliation that was visited on Arafat by Israeli occupation negotiators: how Israeli soldiers would search his car every time he entered the occupied territory. It talks about how Rabin would refuse to shake the hands of Palestinians in private. Arafat deserved all this humiliation: he brought Oslo on himself and on the Palestinian people.
