Robert Fisk (but not his driver Abed) has no shame left. Now, he is an apologist for the Gemayyels: "he proved himself a brave man in the aftermath of his son's murder." Gemayyel's bravery against Syria only manifested itself after the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon. Go to the archives and find what Gemayyel said about Hafidh Al-Asad (and about Syrian policy in Lebanon) after his death in 2000. Fisk even said this about Bashir Gemayyel: "Bashir turned out to be less pro-Israeli than the then-defence minister, Ariel Sharon, hoped." Less pro-Israeli? This is like saying that Karl Rove is less pro-Bush. Read my account of Bashir Gemayyel (published originally in As-Safir and reproduced here). Fisk then said this on the Hariri candidate in Beirut: "a Sunni Muslim who scored 85 per cent of the vote for the seat of Walid Eido." Fisk forgot to tell you that the turnout was less than 19% of the vote despite great efforts and massive bribery by the Hariri family. (thanks As`ad--not me)
