It occurred to me that the first American attempt to redesign and restructure Muslim school curricula was undertaken in the 1920s by John Dewey who was invited by Ataturk to evaluate the state of education in Turkey. Dewey was the one who "informed" Ataturk that Arabic is too cumbersome for school children.
