It is not that the US ambassador in Lebanon is a High Commissioner (he is of course, just as Rustum Ghazalah was), but the media with colonial nostalgia, like the LBC TV (the TV of the militia that perpetrated the Sabra and Shatila massacres) want the US ambassador to serve as High Commissioner. Yesterday, LBC TV hosted the US ambassador and asked him for his views on the "qualities" of the presidential candidates in Lebanon. (Imagine if the Lebanese ambassador in US is invited on American TV to discuss his/her views of US presidential candidates.) I have never been into a country with more passion for pleasing the White Man than Lebanon. For the Lebanonese the model of government is apartheid South Africa although somebody need to remind them that they are not white Europeans (their delusions notwithstanding).
