I have received this note from a reader:
"further to your comment on the CNN special on Pakistan's madrassas; a couple of years ago, an uncle of mine who was a travel agent in Peshawar (he now lives in Canada) was showing some american reporter around (he chaparoned quite a few -- I guess they pay pretty well). This reporter apparently wanted to speak to a bona fide 'people trafficker'/'pe! ople smuggler'. So my uncle got a good friend of his (who also worked in his travel agency) to wrap a scarf/towel round his head and sit in a darkened room with a kalashnikov. Needless to say, the reporter (unfortunately I don't know his name) bought the whole charade hook, line, and sinker."
