"A new scandal threatens to further undermine the credibility of the Iraqi government. A newly released video of Saddam's execution showed the prosecutor-general of the Anfal trial, Munqidh al-Far'un, celebrating the death of the ex-president while chanting sectarian slogans. According to al-Hayat, the “demonstration” shown in the video took place not too far from the government’s headquarters, and participants also directed insults at the body of the dead president, over an hour after his execution. Today, al-Hayat interviewed al-Far'un, who said that his participation in the “festivities” held over the death of Saddam Husain was “impulsive” and “(was) not pre-arranged.” The prosecutor-general added that he was “surprised” by the number of individuals who came to celebrate the execution of the ex-president in the Green Zone, while Saddam’s body was being transported. “They carried me on their shoulders, along with high officials in the state,” al-Far'un said of the demonstrators. When asked to identify the participants in the procession, Far'un said that those who appeared in the video were “mostly guards wearing their military uniforms, and others who were in their civilian clothing, carrying weapons, and they were demonstrating in joy over Saddam’s execution.”"
