So my mother is very worried about the developments in Lebanon. She is very pessimistic. For the first time ever, she even pleaded with me to cancel my trip to Lebanon (she of course, has been pleading with me to cancel my trip to Pakistan. My hosts in Pakistan are correct in pointing out that Pakistan is far safer than Lebanon). She also--to my dismay--is supporting the Lebanese Army. She believes that the Hariri Inc were behind this whole mess, and she blames them: she believes that Hariri Inc (and their patrons) are responsible for instigating the conflict, and may have been behind the gang, Fath-Al-Islam. Thus, she--unlike me--is not critical of Hizbullah's stance, and their silence regarding the massacre in the Nahr Al-Barid camp. She thinks that Hariri Inc has succeeded in turning the bulk of Sunni public opinion against Hizbullah and against the notion of resistance against Israel (she has even seen the changes in the opinions of members of her family--Beiruti Sunnis). She thinks that Hizbullah is in a very tight position, and that they were being set up.
