I can't believe that there are leftists in the US who hold Robert Fisk as an exemplary model of good reporting on the Middle East. You read one piece by him (Abed is much better, by the way), and you come across so many generalizations, cliches, sometimes outright racism, stereotypes, and falsehoods. Look at this: "This is a part of the country where revenge killings have often been a feature of social anger." Or this: "That's how these things work in the Middle East, where there is no such thing as responsibility - only a commonality of interests." Now what on earth does that mean? Also, it is amazing how much a foreign correspondent, who does not know that language of the natives, misses in his/her reporting. Somebody should tell him that the organization in question quickly issued a statement denying responsibility for the two bombings he mentioned here. But with Fisk, you feel he puts out whatever he receives from the press office of Hariri Inc.
