Also, was reading the bestseller by Tom Reiss on Lev Nussimbaum: it sure is an interesting read but..1) the author is a rabid anti-communist (and he hates anarchists even more); 2) he is very anti-anti-Orientalist (although he knows close to nothing about Orientalism; 3) he relies on accounts of Nussimbaum when it is clear that the latter made things up as he went along; 4) I did not know that `Ali Ibn Abi Talib was the "nephew" of the Prophet until I read this book (The Orientalist) (p. 8); 5) describing the father of Lev he said: "who apparently made a striking, if decidedly non-Muslim, impression."
