I am serious. Does anybody know who came up with the cliche about "the glass half empty or half full" as a reference to optimism and pessimism? It is very annoying. And why is it so wildly used as if it is such an intelligent formulation? One can easily come up with better images, like a shoe half submerged in mud, or a potato half-peeled, or a bridge half-broken, or a tomato half-smashed, or an egg half-fried, or a chair half-comfortable. Glass half-empty? Break that glass NOW.
