Not only is he the first Muslim congressperson but he also is the first one to take an oath on a pile of books. Why not add the multiple volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica and Kitab Al-Aghani while you are at it, dude? And how could he carry a book by Thomas Jefferson who (in his book Notes on the state of Virigina) said that "blacks, whether originally a distinct race, or made distinct by time and circumstances, are inferior to the whites in the endowments both of body and mind" and he compares African-Amerians to monkeys? But maybe he is honoring the only worthy achievement of Jefferson. He was the one who introduced the eggplant to the US (having discovered its deliciousness in France).
