When Michael Kinsley comes to the rescue of Zionism. Michael Kinsley is one of my favorite columnists: he is witty and sharp, although I don't agree with any of his politics. I once appeared on CNN's Crossfire when he was the host from the "left"--the American Left (equivalent of Right in Europe for our international readers). But in this defense of Israel, Kinsley is atypically unsure and incoherent. He jumps from one argument to another. He tells you that Israel is not comparable to Apartheid because there is no racist ruling ideology in Israel. Yet, he ignores to address the racist elements of Zionist--in theory and in practice. Then he remembers that the Palestinian don't have a Nelson Mandela. What kind of logic is that. For Israel to be comparable to Apartheid, the Palestinians need to produce leaders and characters who have the same names as ANC leaders, and who look like them too? Are you kidding me? He then talks about how Israeli children are taught egalitarian principles and love. That would be nice if true. Read the studies of the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem. By the end of this rambling piece, I was expecting Kinsley to argue that you can't compare Israel to apartheid because the holy land is not in Africa. Try harder, o columnist from the..."left." Try harder.
