LBC-TV's evening news broadcast only showed veiled women among the demonstrators in downtown Beirut. They did that for 2 reasons: 1) to underline that all the demonstrators are Muslims and that none are Christians (in fact today, SF Chronicle showed demonstrators holding the flags of the Maronite Marada Party and claimed that it was a Hizbullah party; 2) to show that the demonstrators are not "civilized" (according to Lebanonese standards, veiled women are not "civilized". The Nation magazine must agree with that view because it hailed the March 14th demonstrators and described them as "glamorous.")
