It is now official. Former commander of the Arab Lebanon Army (the Army that split from the Lebanese Army in 1976 with the support of `Arafat), Ahmad Al-Khatib, is now organizing the Hariri militia. When the Syrian army invaded Lebanon in 1976 to prevent the victory of the PLO-Lebanese National Movement, Al-Khatib was arrested. He was taken to Al-Mazzah prison where he languished for years, and was subjected to various forms of torture perfected by Ba`thist jailers. (Al-Akhbar said that he spent around 2 years in jail. He spent much more than 2 years.)
