If you want to see the blatant classism (if not sectarianism) of Lebanonese politics, see this issue of Mulhaq An-Nahar dedicated to the memory of Jubran Tuwayni (and the Mulhaq is considered to the left of An-Nahar, but this is like being just to the left of Pat Roberston). Here, you will read about the downtown demonstrators being described as "primitive." But most importantly, see the extent to which this production contains the most persistent and dogmatic revival of Orientalist cliches (also contained in Samir Qasir's last book).
