A reader in Washington, DC sent me this: "Hi As'ad, I was with some friends when we ran into Nayla Mu'awwad and the ulra-Lebanonese May Shidyaq in a restaurant (Neyla in Gtown).... Neyla stated what means that "she is confident that Nabilh Berri is waiting for the first chance to situate himself with 14 march position". Other friend commented that Berri's situation is becoming very similar to that of Rafiq Hariri after the latter voted for the extension of Lahud; that is, claiming allegiance to Syria/the Arab line and at the same time arranging for the Bristol and financing it. However, Berri is a little bit different because he is restrained by strong Shiite inclination towards Nasrallah that is what delayed him until now. But Nayla...was sure as if she got public and private assurances from Berri that he is emotionally with "14th March"...If that were true, it would not surprise me knowing Berri's very loose pragmatism. I would love to see him kicked from South Lebanon by Elder farmers who would throw their ragged shoes and angry spits after him...."
(Angry Arab: I like the food at Neyla's restaurant but dislike the Lebanonese ambiance).
