I may not be able to blog on schedule tomorrow--why am I explaining myself to you as if I am getting paid by you? I start my full academic semester at California SU, Stanislaus tomorrow (started Berkeley last week). Wish I have a staff--including a specalist-tomato slicer. So many things to talk about. The speech by Bush (I gave a comment on it to AlJazeera today by phone) was classic: it was quite bizarre. I mean, he was lashing out at everybody, Sunnis, Shi`ites, everybody. I can see those in charge of US public propaganda efforts in the Middle East listening and shuddering. It was just odd. It had more to do with domestic calculations, I think, but its international repercussions will be immense. And if I mentioned the Qatar PR plane landing in Beirut yesterday it does not mean that I take sides in the Qatari-Saudi conflict. My position vis-a-vis conflicts between Arab governments is like Kissinger's position on the Iran-Iraq war: he wanted both sides to lose. I am for the overthrow of every Middle East government, except in Cyprus. But the Qatari-Saudi feud is important--I want it to continue and to grow: if it is resolved, House of Saud will get full control of ALL Arab media. Scary indeed. I have a Sprint 6700 phone: and with the Slingbox Mobile, I now can watch and control my TV from my cellphone, and can even control my DVR. Technology is advancing fast; I have to keep up. Bye.
