Israeli attacks on Lebanon: only some specific examples. People think that the first Israeli attack on Lebanon occurred in 1968, with the attack on Beirut airport, and the destruction of the Lebanese civilian air fleet. Not true. Israeli attacks had occurred much earlier. Between 1949 and 1964 there were some 140 Israeli attacks on Lebanese villages and towns. On July 24th, 1950, Israeli planes downed a Lebanese civilian plane killing 2 people and injuring 8. On October, 1950, Israeli troops fired on Lebanese civilians killing four at Yarun village. In 1959 along, Israeli forces hijacked three planes (two civilian planes, and one Lebanese military jet), and forced them to land in Israel. On August, 27th, Israeli forces killed one woman and destroyed two houses, and three bridges during an Israeli infiltration into South Lebanon. On June 14th, 1968, Israel troops bombed Mays Al-Jabal in South Lebanon and injured 56 people. After the attack on the Beirut airport in 1968, (in the same year), Israeli occupation troops killed 11 Palestinians in `Arqub region. After 1968, the attacks were so numerous that I need hours to list them for you. So remember Israel attacked Lebanon LONG BEFORE there was Hizbullah, AND LONG BEFORE there was even PLO. (Specific information on Israeli attacks can be found in, for example, Amin Mustafa, Al-Muqawamah fi Lubnan (Dar Al-Hadi, 2003).
