I am most displeased with the quality not only of the US press--I never have hopes or illusions about the US press--but also of the UK press. Why would the Guardian have their correspondent in Jerusalem, for example, report on Beirut? And why did the reporter so blatantly distorted the words of Hasan Nasrallah from yesterday's press conference? And today I heard somebody on a US network refers to Hizbullah as Iranian in membership. And I would never link to the (un)official Israeli propaganda outfit, MEMRI, but today it released a statement against Hizbullah from Shaykh Subhi At-Tufayli. Tufayli, for potato's sake. Tufayli split with the party because he thinks that Hizbullah is too moderate and that it is deep down pro-Israeli. I kid you not. But MEMRI, and Al-Arabiyya TV, is so eager for any Shi`ite criticisms of Hizbullah that they settled for this most fanatical Tufayli guy. Tufayli is wanted by the Lebanese government and he recently been talking to Hariri Inc to settle his legal case for an armed insurrection that he had led. A Lebanese journalist (a Shi`ite sympathetic to Hariri Inc) told me that he gets invited to speak on TV these days (he is everywhere) becuase Hariri media are eager for Shi`ite voices against Hizbullah.
