I was reading on the plane Stephen Walt's Taming American Power: The Global Response to US Primacy. It is a very good read, and he does an excellent job of discrediting the arguments of neo-conservatives regarding the use and misuse of US power. There is a chapter (4), that deals with the Israeli lobby. Some of the stuff there we read in that famous study. But in the book, the treatment of the Israeli lobby is surrounded by treatment of the Indian and Armenian lobbies. Poor Armenian lobby. How could one even compare. But "balance" required that. But the references to Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict in the book are rather brave. Certainly, more courageous than what you read in mainstream US academic writings. The book is good in analyzing global resentment to US supremacy. It undermines Bush's arguments as to "why they hate us" (for our lifestyle).
