Arab media, especially in Lebanon, keep inventing silly ranking of the "top 50" this and the very best "10" that, etc. And they also refer to some non-existent "Western"--read superior--lists and rankings. For the last year, I got sick and tired of a reference in the Arabic press (here the notorious Al-Arabiyya, her employer) to an alleged New York Times selection of Gizelle Khuri--my least favorite media person ever, and anywhere-as one of "top 8 female media personalities" in the world. I kid you not. They make these things up, and then they celebrate their fabrications. On another note, your favorite show, the Lebanonese From Lebanon on LBC-TV, had a segment the other day on Lebanonese poet, Sa`id `Aql. It said that Sa`id `Aql wrote French poetry, and that it "surpassed" the poetry of French poets. That entity of Lebanon, I have no doubt, will not last in historical terms. Too hollow.
