We may be incompetent, but we have laptops in front of us. Among Arab governments, I believe that the Lebanese government started it--you can always count on Lebanon for setting trends of superficiality, pretentiousness, appearances, and fakery. They place laptops before the ministers during cabinet meetings. Now, the Palestinian government has also adopted the showy practice. Why? I mean, why do they do that, and why do they need a laptop? Do they get a sudden urge to blog while attending cabinet meetings? Of course, not. It is all about images. They want to send the message that they are business-like and high-tech. Some of the Lebanese ministers can't complete a full sentence, but they love to be seen with a laptop before them. Cut it out. NOW.
