As somebody who grew up in Lebanon during the civil war, I am watching sectarian developments in Egypt with great alarm. Of course, there is a history of state discrimination against Copts in Egypt. But the person most responsible for unleashing fanatic sectarian anti-Coptism, is the former Nazi, Anwar Sadat (the biggest influence on Jimmy Carter--according to him).
