`Arafat was known to be vague, duplicitous, and ambiguous about what he wanted. Hamas is quite clear. Hamas wants Palestine of 1948; no, it accepts the '67 borders. Hamas is opposed to negotiations with Israel; no, Hamas accepts some negotiations through Abu Mazen. Hamas is for a truce with Israel; no, Hamas will never observe a truce. Hamas will not recognize Israel; no, Hamas may recognize Israel. Mahmud Az-Zahhar wrote a letter in which he accepted the two-state "solution;" no, he did write the letter, but he does not accept the two-state "solution." OK.
