The Political Language of the New York Times: "the painful pullout from Gaza last summer". Now, look at this phrase. How much it reveals about the New York Times, and its political intentions. Just imagine if we apply that use of language, elsewhere, to situations where armed occupiers leave occupied lands. Was it "painful" when German troops retreated from Stalingrad? Was it "painful" for British troops to depart from the US? Was it "painful" for French troops to leave Algeria? Was it "painful" for the white minority regime to give up power?
