Came home from a long day last night to check my email. I was astonished at the large volume of emails from people who listened to the debate on Democracy Now yesterday. I know that Democracy Now has a very large audience, and that it grows by the day. I would say that 90% of the emails I received were supportive and positive. And my critics and opponents are so predictable: Lebanese right-wing critics always use vulgar and obscene language to attack me, and say "you are gay"--apparently they like saying that not knowing that only homophoebic heterosexuals get offended by being called gay--and my American right-wing opponents ask me to go back to the Middle East. I mean, how original is that? One angry person accused me of hating Islam for agreeing to do a debate with Manji. That was odd, I thought. Apparently, some (unhappy) listeners also called UC, Berkeley too. One (or more) asked that I be fired. OK.
